  • Stomach (the acid pit)
  • Small intestine (where most nutrients are absorbed)
  • Large intestine / Colon (your body’s compost bin)
  • Plus, gut-adjacent organs like the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder

But the gut isn’t just plumbing. It’s home to trillions of bacteria, fungi, and microbes—aka your gut microbiome—which help you digest food, regulate your immune system, and even tweak your mood.

If you’ve ever Googled your weird gut symptoms (we all have), here’s a cheat sheet for what’s actually going on:

The Gut

Not just your stomach. It’s your entire digestive system, stretching from your mouth to your… um, final exit point. Includes the stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and your gut microbiome—the ultimate freeloaders who keep you alive.

Bloating

That swollen, stretched, or tight feeling in your belly. It’s not just feeling full—bloating usually means:

  • Gas buildup (from digestion or swallowed air)
  • Slow digestion
  • Food intolerances
  • Or your gut just being a drama queen that day

You might also be farting more than usual or hearing weird gurgling sounds that you pretend weren’t yours.

Brain Fog

When your brain feels like it’s moving through treacle. Brain fog makes you:

  • Forget things mid-sentence
  • Zone out in meetings
  • Wonder if your brain is actually powered by a dial-up modem

Causes of brain fog:
